MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport intercepted a live python snake in Pasay City on Sunday.

The 20-inch long reticulated python was concealed inside a Bluetooth speaker. It did not disclose where the speaker came from.

The authorities turned over the python to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources “for proper handling and care.”

Due to the incident, the bureau reminded the public that import, export, and trade of wildlife animals without a necessary permit is a violation of Republic Act 9147 or Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act in relation to R.A. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Last March, BOC also confiscated some 1,500 live turtles placed in four pieces of luggage from Hong Kong. — Rosette Adel
