Anti-terror bill creates noise

I am one of those silent netizens who would opt to read, like, and share posts in social media. I am not fan of giving my opinions on various issues. However, with the noise that the anti-terror bill is giving, it is fitting to share my voice as well, with the hope that somehow people will look at the bigger picture.

The Anti-Terror Bill is such a complex issue, that it has multiple layers. And one should dig more to understand this issue. I recognize that the existing law does not have enough teeth to give the government the ability to fully protect us from the threats to our national security. I acknowledge that those people who lived in the southern part of the country are more exposed to the threat of terrorism since war is continuously happening there with fight against Abu Sayyaf. I recognized that my experience from terror is nowhere near compared to the people at the war zone. This is why I understand the sentiments of the government forces because they are at the frontline in battling terrorism. Likewise, I recognize the fear of their families cause even them, and I,  who is living at the comfort of my home can be a victim of terrorism.

I also recognized the opinions of other people who are against the bill. I understand their point. However, I still believe that this bill should not be junked. If there are provisions that are “ambiguous” I am confident that our lawmakers shall make amendments to clear those provisions and clearly discuss the primer of the said bill.

At the end of the day, we all want to end terrorism in this nation and the nations of the world. -  Nina Sandoval
