Climate change everybody’s concern

Owing to the government’s failure to address the dangers posed by climate change with a comprehensive national policy, regions, provinces and municipalities should take their own roles to rein the destructive phenomenon.

Efforts should be made to tame climate change with measures focused on reducing carbon monoxide in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide emission is the main culprit in air pollution.

However, it is not enough that policies are made. They must be strictly implemented.

We have just witnessed the massive destruction by Yolanda, the off-season in Davao and the 7.2 earthquake that destroyed the scenic tourist spots in Bohol.

The question is, “how prepared are we if occurrences of this magnitude come again?”

The problem is everybody’s concern and should not be left to the central government alone. Regions and LGUs should come up with measures requiring exhaust-clean vehicles and energy-efficient factory buildings.

For its part in mitigating climate change, Mapecon developed the hydrogenated JECEL diesel fuel, clean fuel that reduces tailpipe emission by 60 percent according to a study by the DENR Environment Bureau. — GONZALO CATAN Jr., EVP, Mapecon Green Charcoal Philippines
