AFP for credible elections

-

MANILA, Philippines - On my way to work, I saw a soldier who was wearing a pin on his left chest. The pin read “AFP for Credible Elections”. The pin was very noticeable because of its color, and of course the message it wanted to convey.

In the past, I recall that some of our soldiers were exploited to act as bodyguards or the like. But this has all changed because of EDSA 1 and other challenges that faced our Armed Forces. From then on, they became more professional, disciplined and politically mature.

They know very well that their place in society is to guard, defend and protect the nation and its people. In short, they have long distanced themselves from politics and many times over, proved themselves worthy of their uniform.

I would like to congratulate the AFP. In a manner so simple but to the point, they got the message across. Proving they have long espoused good government of which they are very much a part of. – Helen Buñales, Sampaloc, Manila
