MANILA, Philippines - Young Filipino math wizards shone in the 17th Clock Tower School International Math Contests held in Valcea, Romania, winning 3 gold, 3 silver, and one bronze medals, as well as other awards.
Winning gold medals for the Philippines were Dion Stephan Ong of the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Grade School, William Joshua King of Bethany Christian School, and Jinger Chong of St. Jude Catholic School.
The country’s silver medalists were Gen Mark Tanno of Southville International School and Colleges, Stefan Marcus Ong of St. Jude Catholic School, and Eion Nikolai Chua of MGC New Life Christian Academy.
Tiffany Mae Ong of Immaculate Conception Academy won a bronze medal. Alyana Zoie Chua of MGC New Life Christian Academy won an honorable mention.
The Filipino math standouts, who were trained and prepared for the tournament by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild-Philippines, also won special awards in the Blitz contest. Gen Mark Tanno, Dion Stephan Ong and Tiffany Mae Ong won a second place award; Stefan Marcus Ong and Jinger Chong won third place awards; and William Joshua King, Alyana Zoie Chua and Eion Nikolai Chua won honorable mentions.
Countries that participated in the contest were Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The tournament is organized by Romania’s Ministry of Education, Research, Youth, and Sport; Romania Math Society, the Valcea County School Inspectorate and the Valcea Teacher Development Center.
