SEA education ministers launch SEAMEO College

Rainier Allan Ronda - The Philippine Star

HANOI, Vietnam — The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) launched here recently the SEAMEO College which is envisioned to facilitate the sharing and exchange of education ideas and initiatives on education among the countries of the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) and its associate and affiliate non-ASEAN  member countries and organizations.

Pehin Abu Bakar Apong, SEAMEO president and Brunei Darussalam Minister of Education, said the SEAMEO College was the flagship program that will provide the organization with an online platform for “high-level discussions,” as well as the exchange of ideas and programs on education among all members of SEAMEO.

“The key to making this happen is the resolve of SEAMEO to achieve a more global outlook and pursue a stronger fortitude for regional cooperation,” Apong said in his speech at the launch at Daewoo Hotel Hanoi.

“Generating new and innovative ideas through SEAMEO College will fuel to action the mandate for which SEAMEO was created which is the promotion of cooperation in education, science and culture. Eventually, SEAMEO College will also contribute to fulfilling the ASEAN Community,” Apong said.
