Entrepreneurship for out of school youth

MANILA, Philippines - MFI Foundation, Inc. (MFI, formerly Meralco Foundation) recently announced a new Dual Training System (DTS) program in agricultural entrepreneurship that will be offered in the MFI Farm Business Institute (MFI-FBI) campus in Jala-Jala, Rizal. The program aims to motivate out-of-school (OSY) from farming families to get into agribusiness. With an emphasis on hands-on training, MFI-FBI offers post-secondary certificate courses on crop production, animal production, aquaculture, post-harvest processing, farm mechanics and irrigation, food processing and packaging, and agricultural logistics. A module (instead of a semester) runs for four months, with one month residential stay on campus for classroom and laboratory instruction followed by three months on-the-job training off campus. Several youth from Benguet will soon be training at MFI-FBI, in collaboration with Foundations for People Development, Philex Mining Corp., and DA-Agriculture Training Institute.
