Kuminga signs with Timberwolves — report
MANILA, Philippines — Jonathan Kuminga is heading to Minnesota.
The wing has signed a two-year, $13-million contract with the Timberwolves, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Thursday morning (Manila time).
Charania said that the 23-year-old forward, who played for the Atlanta Hawks last season, chose Minnesota over the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls and Portland Trail Blazers.
Now, he is expected to land a starting spot for the re-tooled Wolves squad, along with LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
The seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Kuminga was traded from the Golden State Warriors last season to Atlanta. In his 16 regular season games for the Hawks, he averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.9 steals a contest.
Also on Thursday, Charania announced that Bennedict Mathurin will head to the New Orleans Pelicans on a two-year, $16-million deal.
Mathurin, who played for the Los Angeles Clippers last season, will have a player option with the Pelicans.
After being traded from the Indiana Pacers back in February, he averaged 17.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks a contest in 26 games for the Clippers.
