Smuggled cigarettes seized in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines ­– Smuggled cigarettes valued at P26.21 million were seized in a police operation that also resulted in the arrest of three suspects in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur on Wednesday.

Troopers of the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion were conducting security patrol in Barangay Old Labangan when they intercepted a vehicle loaded with untaxed cigarettes.

The truck driver and his two passengers were brought to the police station after they failed to present documents for the transport of their cargo.

The contraband was turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
