Month of May

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero Ballescas - The Freeman

One more day, it will be May 31. That will be 18 days after the May 13 Philippine elections. Before May ends, will the truth behind the election glitch be finally revealed? Will the Filipino people finally know what truly happened with the Filipino votes?

Because the glitch remains unresolved despite Comelec proclamation, no one among the proclaimed can claim, without a doubt, that their victory was genuine and final.

One would think that to clarify and confidently show their victory, Du30 and his candidates would join the call for Comelec to speed up the clarification of that May 13 glitch. Until now, however, there is no one among those proclaimed who have tasked Comelec to publicly explain and resolve the glitch soonest.

Empty victory. Doubtful winners. Who were really voted by the Filipino voters here and abroad? The hope and prayer still remain.

Before May 2019 exits, may the truth about the election results and glitch be fully revealed? Surely, there will be the honest and honorable, who will honor themselves, our people and God and reveal the truth. We stay in full faith in God who loves our people who truly worship Him.

We are still in full faith and reach out to those who “when he, the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:13).

In the May 29th reading of the Sabbath, Fr. Donnie Guzman, SSP, wrote that “the Holy Spirit acts as the divine enabler. He aids the human memory to recall what are needed to be told, guaranteeing consistency and fidelity to the divine truth.” JC Libiran wrote about “Veritas cum caritate” in the May 29th reading for Didache. The Latin words, he explained, mean “truth with love”.

We stay in full trust that there are honorable Filipinos who can shed the truth about the May 13 election glitch and results, because of their love for our people, our country, and God. We also fully trust Mama Mary, our patroness, will continue to intercede for God’s truth, peace, and healing for our country and our people.

Meanwhile, while the “victors” are busy about electing the House Speaker and about which committees they want to chair, let us remain vigilant and continue to protect our people’s freedom and rights. When God’s truth is finally revealed, in His time, in His way, all will be restored beautifully, miraculously!

While still in the dark, however, let us also not allow ourselves to miss the remaining beauty and beautiful in our midst.

During May, did you observe our children and our people here and abroad participate in the continuing practices of the Flores de Mayo and Santacruzan? Did you observe how children played with so much abandonment, fun and laughter?

Soon, vacation and reunions will be over. It will be back to school for many during the next month of June. Before June comes in, though, we have to gratefully note as well the lovely flowers that bloomed in May. The fragrance and scent of flowers and the delicious fruits will be terribly missed when the rainy season takes over. The fragrant white sampaguitas especially loved the occasional rains of May and daily harvest filled up more than both hands! Not only lovely to look at, the fragrant sampaguita made sleeping so much more restful. The fragrance even helped opened clogged noses. Avocado, mangoes, sineguelas, and lomboy are among the delicious fruits offered by this month.

Looking forward to the next flowers and fruits of June and the truth, to relish and enjoy to our hearts’ content.
