Shouldn’t policemen speak more than one language?

MULTICULTURAL. Isn't it time for government to introduce change in some sectors in order to meet the needs of a multicultural society such as the Philippines? A Freeman newspaper reader has asked.

REQUIREMENT. In the case of the shooting of a Chinese consul, the reader has suggested that Criminology interns take up lessons in Mandarin or Fukien as a requirement for graduation.

BILINGUAL. Being bilingual (knowledge of English and Filipino) isn't enough, he said. The ability to speak one more language, either Nihonggo or Korean, will help them in their future work, he added.
