Now retired from diplomatic duties, Amba Frank Benedicto (he's simply "Amba" to embassy personnel he had worked with abroad) has made a paradigm shift. He's now into the academe helping young people seek a bright future. His family's Benedicto College in Mandaue City is fast making a good name in the technology-vocational field with TESDA collaborating.

The Cebu City Council has started (about time, Sir Mike) dredging some heavily silted creeks "to put an end to the flooding in the city." Some P70-M has been set aside for the project. I refrain from saying the city has sunk in P70-M for the creeks because the amount might go down the drain.

Telephone companies have been given until October 15 to remove and transfer their phone lines along Gov. Cuenco Ave. Until October 15, the news says. That fast? It's now October 14 as I write this.

How about the other telephone lines crawling over most city streets like spaghetti and giant spider- webs? Just asking.

OVERHEARD. It's in the news… that two cops were behind the Western Union branch robbery in Guadalupe last Thursday. Now what else is new? Comment: "Unya, Sir, pasagdan ra nang duha?" Reply: "Unsaon man diay na sila? Uso naman na ron." Reply: "Uso ang unsa? Ay, sus, kanimo. Wa ka magbasahan og periodiko?"
