Call vs corruption

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero Ballescas - The Freeman

If you believe you deserve a better life for yourself, your family, for this country, for our people, then unite with other Filipinos and let your voice be heard and your presence counted.

Join the rest of the Filipinos in Cebu and elsewhere in the Philippines and abroad this September 26th and unite vs corruption.

Check local announcements in media, including social media. Help spread the word, invite and encourage your family, neighbors, friends, co-employees, everyone you can to make their stand against corruption be heard loud and clear and be finally heeded by the abusive and corrupt.

For so long, we have allowed the corrupt to steal our country's wealth, resources and funds. As a result, our rich biodiversity, our natural environment continue to be depleted and destroyed. Instead of beautiful, clean, clear seas and rivers, instead of strong sturdy trees, instead of proud eagles, birds and countless more creatures and gifts from the Lord, we continue to witness the ugly hands of the bad and the corrupt to spoil our beautiful, natural heritage.

For as long as we keep our silence and for as long as we remain indifferent, we have allowed the abusive to take over government, to be more greedy and in turn, as the few grew richer and more powerful, millions of our Filipinos continue to become poorer, their survival a daily struggle.

Can you imagine living in a country where honesty and honor are followed and practiced by everyone? Can you imagine our country without any poor in our midst?

Historical records show our people in the past were praised for being honest. Historical documents also show the absence of poverty in our lands. Instead our early baranganic communities showed hardworking and self-sufficient people who worshiped their gods, who had rich, beautiful attire, songs, dances and proud distinct cultures.

When we allowed the abusive among the foreign colonizers, and then among our own local and national leaders, then the good and beautiful gave way for the bad and the ugly. Poverty, basic needs deprivation, dirty surroundings, depleted natural resources are daily realities that generations of Filipinos, including ourselves, have allowed to witness and to continue. The mountains of wastes and those carried by floods reflect how negligent all have been in not responsibly demanding and doing our share for effective, transparent, participative governance.

Do you think you deserve better? Do you think all Filipinos and you and your family deserve so much more good and beautiful?

Think stable and sustainable and healthy food, water supply, stable jobs, accessible education and health services, sturdy affordable houses, clean, healthy environment. Imagine more beautiful possibilities, good roads, well-managed traffic, waste, crime situation. Imagine healthy, well-educated happy Filipinos. Wouldn't it be more fun to live in a country we can be proud of and one we can be happy to hand over to our children and generations after?

Then be counted among the Filipinos who share the same dreams for a better life for all Filipinos. Be among the Filipinos who believe we all deserve so much good and beautiful surrounding for us.

Join the September 26th assembly versus corruption; join na, now na! Organize an anti-corruption assembly or event where you are.

Let us bring back the good, the beautiful, and God in our country, among our people, in our hearts.

Heed the call for all Filipinos to unite versus corruption! Let the genuine healing of our land become an immediate reality!

Do your share please, let us us all unite and do our share to rid our country of the abusive and the corrupt. Now na please.
