The stumbling block has stumbled out

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

"Election Gun Ban is Over" -- Headline. Was there a gun ban? Many are asking. Because if there was, why was there a lot of shooting during the "ban"?

"Many politicians stand by their lies refusing to eat back their words," says an unnamed psychologist quoted by a columnist, who said it's probably because "lies are not palatable."

* * *

What's wrong with eating one's word? Again let me quote the great Winston Churchill of England. He said: "I don't hesitate to eat my words, it has never given me indigestion."

It says here that the Phl "won't back down from any challenge." Fighting words. Whoever said those should not eat them. He's no Winston Churchill.

Sir Eddiegul's bill establishing an LRT in Cebu may now meet no resistance. The main stumbling block has stumbled out of the way. Sir Eddiegul, too, may be out of the way but there's Rep. Samsam Gullas who can take over where grandpa left off. Many are hoping the LRT will become a reality soon.

My good friend, lawyer George Baladjay is back in town on vacation from the States. Because George has been away for so long, the present generation of Cebuanos might probably ask: "Who he?"

* * *

George was and still is a name to reckon with when political historians talk about young politicos who, during their time, dared to try to introduce a kind of politics that's different from the traditional culture of politics we've all known since time immemorial. They failed.

Some 28 out-of-school youths have completed skills training on various vocational disciplines. These youths, believe me, will be able to land jobs much easier than the white-collar college graduates.

OVERHEARD. Some members of a women's religious group were talking about Father's Day. One of them said: "Wa ko kahibawo kinsay father ko. Gi-adopt ra man ko. Ug wa man sad ko masayod sa ngan sa ama-ama ko." Reply: "So kinsa man imong gi-onoran matag Father's Day?" Reply: "Aw di ang labaw sa tanang father -- Si Father God."
