No word for husband

THE EAR - The Freeman

CEBUANO WORDS. The Tagalogs have adopted Cebuano words like ukay-ukay, habal-habal, hinay-hinay, etc. But they haven't yet learned to adopt bana for husband to do away with confusion when talking about husband and wife.

NO WORD. Tagalogs do not have a word for husband. Both husband and wife ware asawa. There is no distinction. So that it's unclear to whom they're referring when they say, for example: “Ang kanyang asawa ay pangit.”
