Why you should not define women based on the 'Big Booty' trend
MANILA, Philippines – For years, the debate about how beauty can be measured has been a hot topic. While the definition of beauty has evolved through time, pop culture has always been one of the most influential medium contributing to the way we see beauty.
Last month, Vogue wrote an article saying that this era is now what we call the “Era of the Big Booty.” We see how women are being objectified in our daily lives, from the seasonal skimpy outfits designed by well-known designers to music videos starring the most famous superstars.
The body trend has been sensationalized so much, so much that most people fail to see the dangers of worshipping body types and body parts. While most of us see the “big booty” as a trend, we cannot deny the fact that the “big booty” craze is just as harmful as “extra skinny” fetish.
The era of romance was when our parents fell in love. This era is of " all I want for my birthday is a big booty hoe "

Whether we like it or not, the perfect body trend seen on the TV shows and music videos like those of JLo’s and Iggy Azalea’s generate insecurity among women. And this is proven by the skyrocketing use of breast augmentation, liposuction, and now butt implantation for the last three years.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, buttock augmentation surgeries are on the rise. On 2013, specialists performed 10,000 augmentations in the U.S., using fat grafting procedures better known as the Brazilian Lift.
While some has the money to do the procedure, not everyone can afford to shed $5,000, thus some women resort to a much cheaper procedure, which is in fact illegal. The ever-increasing pressure in society to appear a certain way results to the escalation of this illegal butt injections that lead to disfigured, emotionally damaged and worst, dead women.
Admit it or not, standards of beauty have become more intense and tapered, while fake appearance has dominated the society. As the world today goes on to scrutinize and break down women’s appearance, let us all remember that there is a better way of promoting women empowerment rather than dissecting a body in tits, ass and legs.
