MANILA, Philippines — Torrential rains brought by tropical cyclone "Mario" on Friday as it sweeps through Luzon reminded Filipinos on social media of the severe flooding from typhoon "Ondoy" in 2009.

As classes and work were suspended, residents had little left to do in their homes and resorted to posting photos on Twitter and Instagram of flooded streets and their homes.

Some netizens said the scenes on Friday morning are reminiscent of "Waterworld," a high-budget post-apocalyptic film in 1995 starting Kevin Costner that nevertheless flunked in the box office charts.
