MANILA, Philippines — The Singapore Tennis Open (STO) makes its highly anticipated return as an upgraded WTA 500 tournament and will take place from September 21-27 at the OCBC Arena at The Kallang, and our very own Alex Eala will be one of the featured stars.

Following its successful run as a WTA 250 tournament last year, this elevated edition will anchor the opening of the WTA’s Asian Swing.

The upgraded tournament will offer significantly more ranking points and prize money — placing Singapore among a select group of just 18 WTA 500 events globally, alongside leading events in cities such as Brisbane and Charleston, and marking a clear step up in scale, competition and international profile from its previous WTA 250 tier.

As part of the WTA’s Asian Swing, the STO plays an important role in the latter half of the season, where players build momentum towards the year-end championships. This will make Singapore a key staging ground for top talent during a decisive stretch of the tour. The upgraded status is expected to attract a strong and competitive international field with more player announcements to follow.

Designed to welcome a diverse audience, the ticket options are purposefully curated to ensure the tournament remains accessible for all. Single-session tickets start from just SG$8, making live tennis accessible to all, especially those discovering the sport for the first time. Fans can also opt for single-session packages with hospitality elements, starting from SG$500. All-access passes for devoted fans seeking the complete tournament experience start at SG$650.

“The elevation to WTA 500 means fans can look forward to a higher-quality field, more competitive matches and an even bigger, more exciting atmosphere at The Kallang this year — delivering a truly world-class live experience,” said Yazed Osman, group head, events & placemaking and place management of The Kallang Group.

Eala, now ranked World No. 28, is the highest-ranked Filipino player in WTA history. She is fresh from a fourth-round stint at Wimbledon and will bring her signature blend of precision and athleticism on the court.

"Singapore has a really special place in my heart and I still remember competing there at the WTA Future Stars as a junior player. I have always enjoyed playing in Singapore because it's so close to home and it's great to have a WTA 500 event in Southeast Asia! I'm looking forward to enjoying a great week at the Singapore Tennis Open,” said Eala.
