MANILA, Philippines — With the country already facing economic challenges, the Bureau of Customs yesterday failed to auction off six luxury cars that would have added P69.8million to the BOC’s coffers.

Bidding failed due to the absence of registered bidders, the BOC-Port of Manila auction and cargo disposal division said.

Up for auction were a Lexus ES 2019 (P2.15 million), BMW X6 2023 (P7 million), Jeep Wrangler 2021 (P2.2 million), Mercedes Benz S680 Maybach 2023 (P9.69 million), Bentley Continental 2023 (P21.6 million) and Rolls Royce Cullinan (P27 million).

“While speculative, perhaps bidders consider the prices high,” BOC Office of the Commissioner deputy chief of staff Chris Noel Bendijo said.

“Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno has instructed the conduct of public auction every two weeks. We are hoping more bidders would participate in the next auction when we have reduced the floor price as well,” Bendijo added.

Inflation climbed further to a three-year high of 7.2 percent in April, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported earlier.

The PSA said the country’s economy grew 2.8 percent during the first quarter of the year, slower than the three-percent growth in the fourth quarter of 2025.
