24 stranded OFWs to arrive at NAIA

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) stranded in Saudi Arabia amid the conflict in the Middle East arrived in Singapore yesterday on a chartered flight, the Philippine embassy in Singapore confirmed.

The OFWs, who flew through a Singapore-chartered flight, were met at Changi Airport Terminal 2 by Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Singapore’s senior minister of state for home affairs and acting minister-in-charge of Muslim affairs.

Singapore has offered to help repatriate Filipinos stranded in Saudi Arabia as tensions escalate.

Singapore Ambassador to the Philippines Constance See said the offer was conveyed to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

She said Filipinos may be allowed to board Singaporean military aircraft being sent to the Middle East to bring home Singaporean nationals.

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo Macaraig said the Filipino repatriates include nine men and 15 women.

The OFWs will take Cebu Pacific flights from Singapore to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
