MANILA, Philippines — Commuters and motorists can expect smooth travel as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) prepares for the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.

About 2,400 field personnel will work until midnight and a “no absent, no day-off” policy will be enforced, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said yesterday.

Traffic management plans will be implemented to aid motorists going to transport terminals.

Bus drivers will undergo random drug testing.

The MMDA will meet with the North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway managements to ensure that motorists exiting Metro Manila will not face traffic bottlenecks.

Cemeteries’ schedule

Meanwhile, the Manila city government has issued reminders for people going to the Manila North Cemetery in Sta. Cruz and Manila South Cemetery in Makati.

From Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, the Manila North Cemetery will be open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The same hours apply at the Manila South Cemetery, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.

Vehicles, cleaning tools, sound systems, pets, alcoholic drinks, sharp objects, gambling devices and flammable materials are not allowed in the cemeteries, the city government warned.

This year’s Undas falls on a long weekend, with Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 declared as special non-working holidays.
