MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office has dismissed 68 LTO enforcers, all from its central office in Quezon City, following reports of corruption and other irregularities.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said that the decision was based on performance evaluations, complaints from motorists and netizens, and reports from mystery agents deployed to assess the integrity of enforcers.

“This is also part of our efforts to weed out corruption and to professionalize LTO’s enforcement team,” Mendoza said.

The complaints involved bribery and extortion, which Mendoza said were verified through consolidated feedback gathered on social media and other channels.

Mendoza said he would personally oversee the recruitment of new personnel for the LTO Law Enforcement Service to ensure that only qualified applicants are hired.

“Only those who would successfully pass the interview and are found suitable and qualified shall be considered,” he said.

In recent months, the LTO has implemented measures aimed at enhancing public service, including resolving an 11-year backlog in license plate processing, introducing online platforms for driver’s license renewal and launching delivery services for licenses and plates.

Mendoza said the LTO is also addressing job security for its workforce, with several job order employees given permanent status in the past two years.
