Quezon City crime volume down by 25%

MANILA, Philippines — The crime volume in Quezon City declined by at least 25 percent in the past three months, the Quezon City Police District said.
The QCPD documented 394 crimes from April 21 to July 20, which is lower by 25.1 percent compared with the 526 incidents recorded in the same period last year.
Police noted the decrease in eight focus crimes – murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, car theft and motorcycle theft – which law enforcement authorities monitor to gauge the peace and order situation in their jurisdictions.
According to the QCPD report, rape cases went down by 58.22 percent, or from 79 to 33 cases. Physical injuries also recorded a decrease of 51.28 percent, from 39 to 19 cases.
Murder cases went down from 26 to 14, a decline of 46.15 percent while homicide cases dropped by 57.14 percent, from seven to three.
The QCPD said robbery cases have gone down by 9.09 percent to 70 from 77 and theft by 8.29 percent, from 241 to 221.
There was also a significant decrease of car theft with only two cases recorded this year, compared to the 18 cases in the previous year.
Col. Randy Glenn Silvio, QCPD officer-in-charge, said 683 wanted people, 719 illegal gamblers and 64 in possession of loose firearms were arrested during the period.
Silvio lauded Mayor Joy Belmonte for consistently supporting the QCPD in maintaining peace and order in the city.
The city’s police force got an added boost in the operational capabilities of its units after it got 17 drones and 32 cellphones.
