MANILA, Philippines — With inclement weather expected in the coming days, the Senate has prepared contingency plans to ensure the smooth opening of the 20th Congress on July 28.
No official statement has been released by Sen. Francis Escudero on whether the opening session of Congress would be suspended, Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. said.
Logistical and on-site preparations are being arranged remotely by the chamber, Bantug said.
Ambassadors and Cabinet secretaries are expected to attend the opening of the regular session.
At the opening of Congress’ regular session, senators will convene at the session hall in Pasay to elect officers, refer bills to committees and deliver ceremonial remarks.
Senators will join their counterparts in the House of Representatives in Quezon City for the joint session of Congress, where President Marcos will deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address.
Work in the Senate has been suspended since Monday due to inclement weather.
