Ramon Efren Lazaro - The Philippine Star

CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan, Philippines – A construction worker who beat a dog to death and then burned it was charged for violation of Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act, the Bulacan police said.

Col. Franklin Estoro, acting Bulacan police director, said the incident was discovered when a concerned citizen, identified as alias Avelina, noticed foul smell at her house in Barangay Lias in Marilao town on Friday.

When Avelina went outside to check, she saw the construction worker, identified as alias Bryan, burning a dog using firewood.

Avelina and Bryan are neighbors along Gaspar Street.

Estoro said Avelina reviewed footage from her CCTV and found the suspect beating the dog with a piece of wood until it died. She informed the barangay peacekeeping action team, which brought Bryan to the Marilao Police Station.
