Girl, 7, dies in Laguna fire

LAGUNA, Philippines — A seven-year-old girl died in a fire that razed a shantytown in Barangay Caingin in Sta. Rosa City on Monday afternoon.

The fire, which started at 1:45 p.m., destroyed around 100 houses. It was declared out at 3:30 p.m.

At least 130 families or 462 people were rendered homeless. They are taking shelter at a covered court within the premises of an elementary school.

The Sta. Rosa city government provided hygiene kits and other assistance to the fire victims.

The cause of the fire and the estimated cost of damage have yet to be determined.
