1 dead, 3 hurt in lightning strike

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – A student died and two others were injured when lightning struck in Maasin City in Southern Leyte on Monday.

Jhundel Sagunob, 19, died at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center.

Alexis de Vera, 20, and Cezar Ray Batas, 21, remained confined in the hospital.

The three are Criminology students at St. Joseph College in the city.

The Southern Leyte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said the three were strolling at the Sunken Garden in the provincial capitol grounds when lightning struck amid heavy rainfall.
