MANILA, Philippines — Mayor Abby Binay on Friday led the launching of the city’s mobile library at the Makati Elementary School.

Binay said the project aims to provide accessible learning materials to Makati students.

“The mobile library is a testament to our commitment to provide quality education in the city. By making books and other educational materials easily accessible, we hope to inspire a love for reading and learning,” she said.

Binay noted that the mobile library is part of efforts to hit the city’s targets in proficiency levels for basic reading, writing and arithmetic, which fell behind during the pandemic.

“We want to make sure that our students are equipped with the basic knowledge before proceeding to the next grade level,” she said.

The mayor reported that the mobile library has reading materials, smart TVs, laptops and various learning materials in English, Filipino, Social Studies and Literature.

There are also teachers and volunteers stationed in the mobile library who are ready to provide assistance to students.

The mobile library will be deployed in different barangays in the city, according to Binay.

The local government recently launched Project FEED, where students are given free nutritious snacks and drinks during school days.

Makati students have been receiving free school supplies, school bags, uniforms, leather and rubber shoes, rain gear, tumblers as well as dengue and hygiene kits.
