Marcos names new trade, LTO officials

MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has appointed a former customs official to the trade department and a retired police general to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Former customs deputy commissioner Agaton Uvero has been named trade assistant secretary, according to a Facebook post by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).

Uvero used to lead the customs bureau’s assessment and operations coordinating group.

An international trade, indirect tax, logistics and supply chain expert, Ubero is a former consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting.

He has worked on various customs technical assistance programs funded by the Asian Development Bank, United States Agency for International Development and Japan International Cooperation Agency, according to the Official Gazette.

Marcos has also appointed retired police general Ronnie Montejo as director II of the LTO.

Montejo, who hung up his uniform in 2021, served as director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas.

Other new appointees announced by Malacañang are Perla Leoncio, PCO director IV; Abraham Mendoza, acting member of the board of directors of Poro Point Management Corp.; Jovy Bernabe, acting president and chief executive officer of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp.; Teodoro Bonifacio Jr., Land Registration Authority deputy administrator; Gregory Cayetano, Office of Civil Defense director II; Reynaldo Alconcel, director IV in the Department of Public Works and Highways; Jonathan Araullo and Editha Babaran, DPWH directors III; Marlon Alagao and Glenda Relova, assistant secretaries in the Department of Social Welfare and Development; Aldrine Fermin, DSWD director IV, and Youssef Velasco, DSWD director III.

Also appointed were Joshua Pablito, transportation director IV; Joel Consulta, transportation director III; Eduardo de Guzman, Nasser Ibrahim, Romeo Sales and Melharrieh Tomawis, LTO directors II; Eric Suriben, LTO director I; and Lester Añonuevo and John Zafe, directors IV in the Public-Private Partnership Center of the Philippines.
