Makati resumes free movie for seniors

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Makati Mayor Abby Binay yesterday resumed the city’s free movies program for thousands of senior citizens as part of their perks for holding citizen cards.

In a statement, Binay said 82,617 senior citizens who are Blu card members and Makatizen Virtual Card holders would enjoy free movies.

The city government resumed the program after it was halted in 2020 due to the pandemic.

“The past years have been challenging for everyone, particularly our senior citizens who were among the most vulnerable during the health crisis,” Binay said. “By reinstating this initiative, we aim to provide them with a much needed avenue for entertainment, joy and social engagement.”

She said senior citizens may watch movies three times a day for the first and second screenings.

They just need to download their citizen card and QR codes to get their free cinema tickets.

The local government plans to include persons with disabilities in the program and add more malls for the free movies, Binay said.
