COA reviewing incentives of PNP personnel

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Audit (COA) is conducting a review of the service recognition incentives (SRIs) for police personnel for fiscal year 2022.

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said on Saturday they are anticipating the COA’s report, which they expect will provide clarity on reports of PNP personnel reportedly receiving incentives lower than what they were supposed to receive compared with other agencies.

“We take this issue seriously, and we are committed to addressing it thoroughly,” he said in a statement.

Acorda said they are eagerly waiting for the COA report, stressing that the PNP is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the handling of funds.

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. earlier said they expect the COA to release its report next month.

In December last year, President Marcos authorized the release of a one-time SRI for employees in the executive branch through Administrative Order (AO) 1.

Marcos’ initiative aims to acknowledge the collective and invaluable contributions of government personnel in ensuring the responsive delivery of services amid the public health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other socioeconomic challenges.

Under the AO, a one-time SRI at a uniform rate not exceeding P20,000 for each personnel in the executive department shall be charged against the released personnel services allotments of the respective agencies.
