MANILA, Philippines — Two pilots of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) were injured when their trainer plane figured in an accident in Lipa City, Batangas yesterday morning.

PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo said the SF260FH Marchetti has been recovered and is undergoing assessment.

The accident occurred during a standard training flight, wherein the plane encountered engine trouble along Runway 21 of the Fernando Air Base.

Castillo said that despite low altitude, the pilots managed to maneuver the aircraft toward an open area within the air base’s perimeter, causing no harm and damage to nearby communities.

Emergency responders helped rescue the pilots.

“After undergoing medical checkup, the pilots were declared safe and stable,” Castillo said.

The PAF said an investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the accident.
