MANILA, Philippines — Anti-narcotics officers confiscated at least one kilo of shabu valued at P6.8 million in Taguig on Wednesday night, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported.
PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said yesterday the drugs were confiscated from Jun Mark Salonga, 45, whom he described as a “major drug trafficker.”
Salonga was arrested by operatives of the Southern Police District in Barangay Western Bicutan at around 10:45 p.m.
Police handcuffed Salonga following negotiations with a police officer who posed as a buyer of shabu worth P400,000.
“This is a clear manifestation of our intensified campaign against illegal drugs, which is in line with the government’s mandate to protect the people from the harmful effects of drugs,” Azurin said in a statement.
A case for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act has been filed against the suspect.
Azurin reminded police officers to uphold human rights in the conduct of anti-narcotics operations.
“We remind our police officers to always observe the human rights of all individuals, especially those who are arrested or in detention,” he said. – Marc Jayson Cayabyab
