Commonwealth Avenue’s exclusive lanes start today
MANILA, Philippines — The implementation of a policy designating lanes for the exclusive use of motorcycles, bicycles and public utility vehicles (PUVs) along Commonwealth Avenue will start today, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reminded the public yesterday.
The exclusive lanes will be enforced from Commonwealth Avenue’s intersection with Elliptical Road to Doña Aurora street, according to guidelines released yesterday by the MMDA.
The first lane from the sidewalk will be for bicycles, the second lane for PUVs, the third lane for motorcycles and the fourth to ninth lanes for private vehicles.
Motorists who intend to exit or enter Commonwealth Avenue or approach an establishment should turn within 100 meters from their lane before exiting.
Those who intend to exit their lanes toward establishments should turn within 200 meters. The same applies to vehicles
approaching a U-turn slot.
The MMDA said that
appropriate pavement markings have been applied to delineate the lanes intended for each vehicle category.
PUV drivers who violate this policy face a P1,200 fine while private motorists as well as motorcycle drivers will be fined P500.
