Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities will determine the liability of the management of a laundry shop following an explosion due to a liquefied petroleum gas leak, which left 16 people injured in Malate, Manila on Monday.

In a radio interview on Tuesday, Manila Police District director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said arson probers from the Bureau of Fire Protection are still investigating the cause of the gas leak.

Police will also look into the business permit and fire safety certificate of the establishment, Dizon said.

He said the victims are recovering from their injuries from glass shrapnels.

The explosion at 360 Wash and Laundry Shop along Fidel Reyes street caused a fire that reached first alarm and damaged other establishments including a student dormitory, a billiard hall and a restaurant.

Among the 16 victims are laundry personnel, customers in the restaurant and billiard hall, dormitory boarders and a passerby, according to police.
