Negros Occidental logs 93 dengue cases, 1 fatality
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Health officials in Western Visayas recorded 93 dengue cases with one fatality in Negros Occidental during the first three weeks of the year.
The fatality was a seven-year-old girl, according to records provided by the Department of Health-Western Visayas (DOH-WV).
Of the six provinces in the region, Negros Occidental recorded the most number of cases followed by Aklan with 57 and Iloilo, 54.
The province consistently topped the number of cases in the region last year.
The DOH-WV said it recorded 326 dengue cases from Jan. 1 to 21 this year. Forty-nine percent of the cases are children aged one to 10 years.
The public has been advised to observe the so-called 4S – search and destroy, seek early consultation, self-protection and support fogging in hotspot areas – to prevent the spread of dengue, which is carried by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
“If there are no mosquitoes, there is no dengue,” the DOH-WV said.
