MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking the deportation of a Japanese fugitive believed to be the brains in a spate of robberies in Japan.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said there are at least 17 Japanese fugitives being held by the Bureau of Immigration (BI), but authorities have yet to identify who among them are tied to the robberies in Japan.
The identity of “Luffy,” the alleged leader of the robbery group who is reportedly being held at the BI detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig, has yet to be confirmed.
“We will implement the deportation as soon as we can. I do not know about the timeline. Hopefully, we can clear these issues before the President leaves for Japan for a state visit,” Remulla told reporters.
Charges of violence against women and children have been filed against Luffy before the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.
