MANILA, Philippines — Ramon Ang’s San Miguel Corp. (SMC) has started refunding the toll of motorists affected by a traffic jam on its expressways on Nov. 17.
SMC Infrastructure issued refunds to motorists who suffered from a traffic gridlock along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, NAIA Expressway and STAR Tollway.
SMC Infrastructure will refund all vehicles that passed through any of its expressways from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on that day.
Motorists can expect the refund to be credited to their Autosweep accounts. The refund is being implemented from Nov. 22 to Dec. 22. Those who paid in cash will be given a free pass for single use at any SLEX, Skyway, NAIA Expressway and STAR Tollway exit.
“Motorists can avail (themselves of) free pass at any cash or mixed lane exits along the toll roads by surrendering their valid official receipt issued on Nov. 17 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tellers will validate the receipts, which will serve as proof that a motorist is entitled to the one-time pass,” SMC Infrastructure said.
The electronic toll collection system crashed after fiber optic cables transmitting data to a database were damaged.
Up to 84,000 motorists were affected.
