MANILA, Philippines — Lawmen have arrested a Chinese couple who were caught on video physically abusing their Vietnamese househelp in Parañaque, police said yesterday.

Haiyang Yu, 39, and Nguyen Thi Non, 29, were charged with kidnapping and serious illegal detention, serious physical injuries and acts of lasciviousness before the Parañaque prosecutor’s office, according to Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Kirby John Kraft.

Operatives of the SPD’s district special operations unit at their residence at a condominium building in Barangay Don Galo at around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Kraft said the victim, a 26-year-old woman, was rescued in the operation.

A concerned citizen has earlier reported to the police that the suspects have been abusing the victim, who has been working as their housemaid.

Police have also obtained two videos that reportedly showed how the couple abused the victim.

One video aired over GMA News’ “24 Oras” showed Yu hitting the victim multiple times with the cable of a cell phone charger.

In the other video, Yu was seen hitting the victim in front of his wife.

“Nearly every part of her body has signs of abuse,” Kraft said in Filipino in a TV interview.
