Diarrhea kills 2 Laguna inmates, downs 80 others
LAGUNA, Philippines — Two inmates at the Cabuyao City jail in Laguna have died and 80 others have undergone treatment due to diarrhea.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said the diarrhea outbreak was due to contaminated water supply in the detention facility.
As of Thursday, there were 28 active cases, 52 under recovery and five receiving intravenous fluid infusion.
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) delivered medicine, such as oresol and antibiotics, underpads as well as drinking water and water bladders.
BJMP chief Allan Iral instructed the health service and warden of the Cabuyao City Jail to monitor the condition of the affected inmates.
