File rape case vs Vhong Navarro, Taguig prosecutor urged

MANILA, Philippines — Lawyers representing model Deniece Cornejo are asking the Taguig City prosecutor’s office to file charges of rape and acts of lasciviousness against television host Vhong Navarro following the Court of Appeals (CA)’s order.
In a motion dated Aug. 3, the Jimeno Cope & David Law Offices urged the city prosecutor to file the criminal charges against Navarro.
“It has been more than a week from the time a copy of the CA’s decision was forwarded to the city prosecutor’s office and still not a single information has been filed against the respondent,” the motion read.
“The Taguig prosecutor’s office has yet to comply with the CA order because the Department of Justice (DOJ) has not transmitted the records of the case,” it added.
Cornejo filed three complaints against Navarro before the Taguig prosecutor’s office in January 2014.
Earlier, the appeals court reversed and set aside the DOJ resolutions dated April 30, 2018 and July 14, 2020, which dismissed the cases filed against Navarro.
