Village exec slain in Quezon
CANDELARIA, Quezon, Philippines — A barangay councilor was killed in an attack that also wounded another man in Candelaria, Quezon on Saturday morning.
Mario de Mendoza, 59, of Barangay Masalukot III, died at the scene due to several gunshot wounds in the body, according to Lt. Col. Arnulfo Silencio, Candelaria police chief.
Farmer Danilo Evangelista, 57, was taken to the Peter Paul Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds.
Investigation showed that Mendoza was leading a cleanup and tree planting activity at around 9 a.m. in Sitio Tangke when a motorcycle with two men on board pulled over.
One of the motorcycle-riding men reportedly approached Mendoza and shot him without provocation.
The suspects fled on the same motorcycle.
Police have yet to determine the motive for the killing. - Ed Amoroso
