MMDA exempts doctors from coding scheme

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has exempted vehicles carrying doctors from the number coding scheme.

Based on a memorandum signed yesterday by MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, cars driven by or transporting physicians flagged for violation of the number coding scheme would not be issued a citation ticket.

Artes said doctors would be allowed to go to their destination provided they present a valid Professional Regulation Commission identification card.

“The MMDA acknowledges the services rendered by doctors in the fight against the pandemic,” he said.

The agency said the memorandum is applicable to physical apprehensions only.

“Insofar as the non-contact apprehension is concerned, the violation will be filed with the MMDA’s traffic adjudication division where the driver or passenger shall prove that he or she was on board at the time the vehicle was cited for violating the number coding scheme,” the memorandum read.
