MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development will request for an exemption from the public spending ban of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), a DSWD official said yesterday.

Irene Dumlao, director of the DSWD social marketing service, said they are targeting to submit to the Comelec this week the list of programs that should be exempted from the spending ban during elections.

Dumlao urged the poll body to allow the DSWD to continue its emergency financial assistance for the marginalized sectors and the relief operations for families affected by Typhoon Odette.

“We are hoping for a positive response from the Comelec regarding our request for exemption from the spending ban,” Dumlao said at a press briefing.
