MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) will have no train trips today, its operator announced yesterday.

The trips were suspended to allow the Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) to test the rail line’s new signaling system, which was upgraded to match the new train sets that arrived last January.

The train sets would be used starting mid-2022, the LRMC said.

The train trips would also be suspended on Jan. 23 and 30 next year for the testing of the signaling system, which is used to direct traffic along the railways, the LRT-1 operator said.

LRMC is a consortium that includes Metro Pacific Light Rail Corp., a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. owned by business tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan.
