Active PNP COVID-19 cases near 2,000

MANILA, Philippines — At least 125 more Philippine National Police personnel have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the active cases in the PNP to 1,783.

The virus has killed 119 PNP members since last year, 89 of them since January.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said 179,169 or 80.5 percent of the 222,560-member police force have been fully vaccinated while 37,280 or 16.75 percent have received their first dose.

Around 2.75 percent or 6,116 remain unvaccinated.

Eleazar said the PNP has administered 360,508 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

At least 161,396 or 44.76 percent of the vaccines were produced by Sinovac Biotech of China.
