Calabarzon COVID-19 cases drop – OCTA

MANILA, Philippines — All provinces in Calabarzon have recorded a decrease in new COVID-19 cases in the past week, the OCTA Research group said yesterday.

However, OCTA said Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Batangas are still at high risk due to high positivity rates or the number of those found infected out of the total tests conducted.

From Sept. 24 to 30, Cavite recorded an average of 728 daily new cases, down 34 percent from the preceding week.

Rizal logged 609 cases (down 23 percent), Laguna had 583 (down 29 percent), Batangas had 396 (down 35 percent) and Quezon had 179 (down 22 percent).

Positivity rates were 21 percent in Cavite, 27 percent in Rizal, 32 percent in Laguna, 21 percent in Batangas and 33 percent in Quezon.

The World Health Organization said the ideal positivity rate is below five percent.

Except for Quezon, provinces in Calabarzon were classified as high risk based on the average daily attack rate.

Cavite recorded an average of 16.91 daily new infections per 100,000 population, Rizal had 18.65, Laguna had 17.16 and Batangas had 12.74.

Cavite had a critical intensive care unit utilization rate of 87 percent; Rizal, 80 percent; Laguna, 79 percent and Batangas, 84 percent.
