Kabankalan, Talisay mayors catch COVID-19

BACOLOD CITY – Two mayors of Negros Occidental have tested positive for COVID-19.

Mayors Pedro Zayco of Kabankalan City and Neil Lizares of Talisay confirmed on Monday that they contracted the virus. Both mayors are fully vaccinated.

Lizares is under quarantine while Zayco is being treated in a private hospital.

The Department of Health Western Visayas office said the COVID-19 alert level in Negros Occidental, including this city, has been raised to 4 as cases surged.

In Pampanga, Vice Mayor Michael Sagum of Candaba town confirmed that he was also infected.

Sagum said he has been in quarantine since Sept. 6 after his wife caught the virus.

He said he had himself tested after he experienced cough, cold and lost his sense of taste.
