Cavite town cop chief relieved over jailbreak

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – The police chief of Kawit, Cavite was relieved from his post after three inmates bolted a police lockup on Sunday.

Calabarzon police director Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz said Maj. Joel Palmares was relieved under the principle of command responsibility. Administrative charges are being prepared against Palmares.

Also relieved from his post was S/Sgt. Ryan De Guzman, the guard on duty when the jailbreak at the police station in Barangay Potol occurred.

Tristan Antonio, 19; Rhino Ortega 27, and Jon-Jon Portez, 22, escaped after destroying the padlock of the gate of the police custodial facility at around 6:30 p.m. The three are facing charges for theft, carjacking and illegal drugs, respectively.

Ortega surrendered yesterday while Antonio and Portes remain at large.

Cruz urged the public to report to authorities any information on the whereabouts of the escapees.
