MANILA, Philippines — Fully vaccinated commuters can avail themselves of free rides at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3, Light Rail Transit Line 2 and Philippine National Railways, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced yesterday.

The DOTr is offering the free rides beginning today until Aug. 20, Secretary Arthur Tugade said.

Authorized persons outside of residence such as frontliners who have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines can ride the trains for free, Tugade added.

Commuters should present their vaccination cards to avail themselves of the free rides.

“Mas mahalaga sa amin sa DOTr ang kalusugan ng ating mga kababayan kaysa sa kita,” Tugade said.

The three rail lines are attached agencies of the DOTr.

The Light Rail Transit Line 1, owned by a consortium of private companies, has not issued a similar announcement.

Metro Manila has been placed under the strictest enhanced community quarantine from Aug. 6 to 20.
